If the pandemic taught me anything, it’s how to be in more places at once.  If you are an administrator, tech integration specialist, or coach, it can be so difficult not only staying up-to-date, but then disseminating information effectively.  I’ve learned from others how to go about getting the word out to staff about all things tech that we have, updates that are coming through, as well as making others feel a little more special along the way.  It’s taken a few years and a pandemic to create a document and movie each month called “Tech Updates”, where I aggregate all information I receive and distribute it to teachers.  My goal is to share my process to hopefully give you some ideas how to go about your own.

ChatGPT in Education (link to presentation –> https://bit.ly/uconn23chatgpt)

Andrew Abate
Riverdale Country School

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot. ChatGPT is designed to provide an interactive learning experience by allowing students to ask questions and receive answers in real-time. It can be used to answer questions, provide guidance, and help students and teachers stay organized. It can also provide personalized learning experiences, allowing students to learn at their own pace. ChatGPT can also be used as a virtual assistant to help teachers manage their classrooms and keep track of assignments and deadlines. For students, it can provide a more personalized learning experience, as it can tailor the responses to the student’s individual needs. However, there are some drawbacks to using ChatGPT in the classroom, such as the potential for students to become too reliant on the technology, as well as potential privacy concerns. In this session, we will show you how to use ChatGPT from both a teacher and student perspective. We will also discuss the pros and cons as well as the potential, limitation, and impact on education.

      University of Connecticut

How can we help students understand the effects of technology on their lives and learning? How can we prepare them for 21st-century issues like echo-chambers, globalization, or AI? To help students grapple with these issues and develop responsible technology habits, technology education has to be more than just teaching students to use technologies proficiently. It needs to analyze questions of what technology is and how it shapes our values and behaviors. Through teaching the Nature of Technology, students grow in technological literacy and are more able to engage in timely cultural debates about the role of technology in our lives.
